Monitor is an output device and used to display results on screen. It is look like monitor and we can see all kind of information such as words, pictures, numbers, graphics etc. The information display on monitor is temporary and is called soft copy. Monitor is classified into two categories; according to colours and according to screen. colours monitors are divided into two types; monochrome monitor and colour monitor. Monochrome monitor is single colour like black and white television. Graphics cannot be so clearly seen on monochrome monitor. Colour monitors can display different variety of colours.

Different types of colour monitor are Colour Graphics Adapter , Enhanced Graphics Adapter , Video Graphics Adapter (VGA) and Super Video Graphics Adapter. CGA support 4 colours, EGA support 16 colours, VGA support 16 to 256 colours and SVGA support 256 and more colours. According to screen types monitor is divided into 2 types; monitor with CRT screen and monitor with LCD screen. CRT stands for cathode ray tube. CRT screen is an electronic tube same a TV screen. LCD means liquid crystal display. LCD is used in monitor and small note book sized personal computers. LCD monitors are becoming more popular all over the world.
