How Do I Find Out Information On The Book 'Thrill Ride'?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Thrill Ride is authored by Russell G. Wright. The book is an event-based science series, published by Innovative Learning Publications in 1997. In Thrill Ride, playing along with the fundamentals of force and motion, the author lures the students to design an exciting but safe amusement park ride. The basic idea is to demonstrate the Newton's laws of motion. The adaptation involves first viewing a videotape and reading actual newspaper articles on thrill rides and amusement parks. The students are then allotted the major task of the module to design and build, in teams, a model of a thrill ride. The catch is that the designed ride has to successfully demonstrate some of the basic laws of physics.

The book 'Thrill Ride' contains five different science activities. These activities are detailed to provide students with the background information and skills they need for the task ahead. Preliminary, the students use Newton's laws of motion to design a ramp to transport fragile materials, analyze the energy transformations on a slide, and investigate the forces exerted on a person on a revolving ride. They also study the forces that control the movement of a pendulum, and apply Newton's second law. The book is dedicated towards module structure and activities. It includes suggestions and specific guidelines and a list of resources.
