Mathematics and art share a long relationship in history. Greeks and Egyptians in ancient times had knowledge about the golden ratio, which is now considered as an aesthetically pleasant ratio, and included in into the making and designing of structures which includes the Great Pyramid, the Parthenon etc. The golden ratio is also used in designing and laying out paintings like the Roses of Heliogabalus. Recent research suggests that the golden ratio also plays an important part in the human insight regarding the aspect of beauty in body structures and facial quality.

Platonic solids and other types of polyhedra have been used as themes in many famous pieces of Western art, for instance the following:

Leonardo Da Vinci's diagrams of polyhedra for the book The Divine Proportion and The Last Supper by Salvador Dali in which Jesus Christ and his followers are shown to be inside a huge dodecahedron.
