    Digit is a term used in mathematics and also in some other fields. Generally, it is a symbol or unit or numeral or integer in counting system. The digits used in a counting system are: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. The binary counting system uses only two digits and are called binary digits. Zero and one are the binary digits. Thus, digit is a term applicable for many small but significant uses. The 'digit' spreads into many fields and is given a specialized term. Thus, there are check digits, significant digit, decimal digit, and bit binary digit.

    Check digit is the symbol that is used to check the correctness of scanned data. It is also used in barcode systems to check the assessment of decoded barcode. In ancient times, digit and its multiples were measured by using the length of body parts as the unit of measurement. And, the finger which you are now using to click and move that computer mouse is also called 'digit'.
