How Do I Research Prestbyterian Records In Ireland?

    Like the Methodists in Ireland, the earliest Prestbyterian Records ican often be found alongside those of the Established Church of  Ireland.

    The expection occurs in areas where Prestbyterianism was very strong.
    In the North- East of Ireland some Prestbyterian records date from the late C17, early C18.

    Margaret Falley's Irish and Scotch-Irish Ancestral Research reproduced by the Genealogical Publishing Company in 1988 is out of date and incomplete but does provide some information on Prestbyterian registers.

    PRONI in Ulster has published a Guide to Church Records: Public Record office of Northern Ireland which does provide information on Registers in local custody.

    After 1845 all non- Catholic marriages were registered by the state. Prestbyterian Registers contain all the information which is provided in state records.
    Researchers can contact the Prestbyterian Historical Society for help in tracing their records in Ireland.
