What Is An Ice Hockey Puck?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

An ice hockey puck can be described as a black, vulcanised rubber disc, which is used to play hockey. It is 1-inch thick, has a diameter of 3-inches in diameter and weighs between 5 1/2 and 6 ounces. Pucks are frozen in order to avoid excessive bouncing and they are changed all through the game. The objective of ice hockey is for the players to score goals by hitting the puck, into the other team's goal net, which is located at the other end of the rink. Players try to control the puck by means of a long stick which has a blade that is usually curved at one end. Subject to certain restriction, players are also allowed to redirect the puck using any part of their bodies. On a slap shot, pucks have the ability to move at speeds up to 120 miles per hour. This is why Goaltenders have to wear masks and a lot more bulky, specialized equipment which is created to protect them from the many hits from the puck.
