Evolution has ensured the survival and gradual selection of a large bird with excellent eyesight, the ability to soar on thermal currents for long times, and powerful talons to kill and hold prey such as lambs and rabbits, along with a hooked bill suitable for tearing off bite-sized gobbets of flesh. Other shapes of bird fill other parts of the food chain, having developed their characteristic appearance to suit their environment and food supply.
