How Do I Clean Hardwood Floors?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Dirt particles spoil the finish of a hardwood floor. It scratches it and leaves behind ungainly marks. A good dust mop that is used regularly will remove dust, dirt and grime from the floor. In order to prevent dirt getting on to the floor, use a floor mat at the entrance of every room. Visitors can wipe the soles of their footwear on the mat; this will trap most of the dirt.

Furniture can dent a hardwood floor; use some cushioning on the legs to prevent this from happening. A vacuum cleaner will clean around the legs of the furniture better than a mop. Use attachments on your vacuum cleaner. If there are any liquid stains then it is advisable to use a mild detergent to wipe it clean. A harsh detergent may unnaturally whiten the floor. Strong oils in certain detergents will make it difficult to polish it in the future.
