I Have To Get A 6 Year Old To Take An Adderall Capsule And He Is Not Use To Taking Medicine ? Can I Break The Capsule Open And Put It In Food For Him?

He has a problem swallowing because he has always had meds you can chew. He finally swallows and spits it out.

Do not crush, chew, break, or open an extended-release capsule.

You can just put the pill in apple sauce and give him a bite with the pill in it he will swallow it.

You could do what I did with my Chihuahuas. Push the pill into a piece of cheese (or whatever his favorite moldable food is) and give him lots of praise when he eats it. Mine barely even chewed when I did this, so they never broke open the tablet I gave them. Hope this helps!

Hi Grandmo! When our Boston didn't want to take his antibiotics that's when I decided I would put it in some peanut butter!!! It's was a wonderful thing for both of us -- for me because it sticks all over the mouth and he really had no choice but to swallow it, and for him because he got a treat!! The vet may also have a 'piller' (if he/she sells pet supplies) available for purchase which works pretty well too. Good luck!
