Who Is Michael Moore?

Michael Moore is a rather rotund and beardy American author, film director and political activist.  He has been a thorn in the side of the American Government and major organisations for many years.

He was famously boo'ed and applauded during his Oscar speech.
Moore is the most famous and popular advocate of undermining corruption, his movies and television shows try very hard to embarrass big businesses such as firearms and the oil industry.

His movies include Roger and Me, a documentary about what happened to his town when General Motors located their factories to cheaper labour in Mexico.

They also include Farenheit 9/11, linking President Bush and his corrupt government with the Saudi Oil Sheiks and Osama Bin Laden.

He also made the highly moving Bowling for Columbine, which looked at firearms laws and industry.

He has also written 'Dude Where's My Country', lampooning Bush and Stupid White Men, lampooning Bush, his government and the major CEOs of American companies.

Michael Moore is an American filmmaker and writer.    He was born in 1954 in Flint, Michigan, which once was the home of a large General Motors plant.

Moore gained attention with a documentary called ROGER AND ME, about his attempts to talk with Roger Smith, head of General Motors, after GM shut down its Flint, MI, factory and opened a new plant in Mexico.  SInce then, he has made a series of documentaries that are usually critical of multinational corporations, the gun lobby, the war in Iraq and the government (in particular, George Bush).

He won an Oscar for his documentary BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE, about America's fascination with guns and violence.  His next work was even more controverisal; FAHRENHEIT 9/11 dealt with the aftermath of the attacks of September 11, 2001.  Moore concentrated on the ties between the Bush family and leaders of Middle Eastern countries.

Depending on whom you talk to, Moore is either a briliant film journalist who exposes stories overlooked by mainstream media or a liberal hack who misrepresents and distorts the facts to suit his argument.  There's no denying he stirs debate!
