Louisa May Alcott was born in Pennsylvania on the 29th November 1832 and was the daughter of Amos Bronson Alcott, a struggling educationalist. Louisa first became an army nurse during the American Civil War and in 863 her book called Hospital Sketches was published. It was this book that earned her some measure of success, although her first book Flower Fables had already been published in 1855.

Little Women has since been republished many times since and made into a Hollywood movie staring Winowa Ryder.
More books followed for Louisa including, An Old Fashioned Girl, Little Men, Good Wives and Jo's Boys, making her renowned for writing books just for girls.
Louisa died at the age of 56 on March 6th, 1888, but her books still live on today.
