UMD stands for 'Universal Media Disc'. It is a type of an optical disc medium which has been developed by Sony Entertainment. These UMD'S are meant to only be used by the Play Station Portable (PSP). The UMD consists of a maximum 1.8 Giga Byte storage capacity. A UMD can store music, games, movies or a variety of combination. Since the UMD is such a small device that can store a lot of data for the PSP, Sony has gone a step further by maintaining exclusive control over the UMD disk format, that no blank UMD media or UMD writers are available to public.
Although UMD'S are mainly used to store games for the PSP, in Japan some adult films are also available on the UMD. However Sony has not taken any action on these UMD'S because they are helping the sales of the Play Station Portable in Japan.
