There were two rivals to President Clinton during the 1996 Presidential elections. There was the Republican candidate Bob Dole and the reform candidate Ross Perot. Clinton received 49 percent of the votes and won. The Republican candidate got 40.7 percent and the reformer got 8.4. However for the first time in forty years it so happened that the republicans managed to gain control over the House of Representatives.
