Does Anyone Know How To Interpret Certain Dreams?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Dream interpretation is a highly subjective branch of parapsychology and is not really endorsed by the scientific community.  Most psychologists agree that dreams can occasionally reflect activity in the subconscious and unconscious, but that it's extremely difficult to distinguish these cues from the "white noise" of random memories and thought processes that your brain throws up in the process of filing information while you sleep.

One way that psychologists can use dream interpretation is as a tool for projection, like a thematic apperception test or the Rorschach inkblots.  The client may tell the psychologist about a dream, and the psychologist can discuss various aspects of the dream to help the client vocalize what he's thinking about.  The dream may not mean anything in and of itself, but the client thinks it does and uses it to express himself to the psychologist.
