What Was The Name Of The First Band To Have A Video On MTV?

MTV began broadcasting on August 1, 1981 with (appropriately enough) "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles.

The early bands were the likes of R.E.M. Pearl Jam and Milli Vanilli who appeared on MTV in its experimental stages.  Pearl Jam were the first band ever to say they didn't want to be on MTV any more, as their fame burnt out too quickly. It has been said that bands who regularly perfomed on MTV seemed to rise to fame quickly and then disappear, just as suddenly. Perhaps because they had spent less time on the road and doing concerts to develop a loyal fan base. Generally stars have about 5 years if they are lucky, to make it on the charts, and then it is all over. There are some exceptions of course, The Rolling Stones, Madonna, and believe it or not, Barry Manilow, who just never die.
