Metformin is widely prescribed to treat type 2 diabetes especially in overweight people. This drug is for insulin resistance and can reduce LDL and triglycerides levels leading to reduction in cardiovascular complications. This drug can cause mild reduction in weight not by burning fats but by stabilizing appetite. User usually does not need to overeat. This drug can also be used in premature puberty, polycystic ovary syndrome and fatty liver diseases. But these indications are still under trials.
Metformin found to be partially effective in those patients who had fat redistribution and insulin resistance especially in AIDS patients. But proper use of this drug in this indications requires some more trial.
