The first movie ever made in Hollywood was "In Old California." This was a melodrama set in occupied Mexico in the early 19th century. It was made in 1910 by DW Griffith and his film company Biograph, who chose the then unknown village of Hollywood as a good place to start filming.

For a long time it was believed that the first film had been "The Squaw Man" made by Cecil B de Mille. Eventually, however, the truth was established, and "In Old California" is now officially the first Hollywood film.
