    Los Angeles is situated in the southern part of the state of California in the United States. It is the entertainment capital of the world. Hollywood, a suburb of the city, is home to the second-largest film industry in the world, after the Indian film industry. It is the most populated city in the state of California and the second-largest city in the United States in terms of population, after New York City.

    The city of Los Angeles derives its name from the Spanish word Los Angeles, which is translated into English as the angels. It was incorporated as a city in the state of California on April 4, 1850. It is the county seat of Los Angeles County.

    The city of Los Angeles, which has an estimated population of approximately four million people,  is often known by its abbreviation L.A. It is, in fact, nicknamed as the City of Angels. The city of Los Angeles was founded in the year 1781.
