What Is Acupunture Good For?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

According to acupuncture teachings, inserting and manipulating needles into acupuncture points on the body restores health and well being and is particularly good at treating pain.
Despite various studies on the usefulness of acupuncture, no study has been completely conclusive on the effectiveness of acupuncture. This has been due the complexity of the study involving design and size, existence of sham acupuncture and use of placebos.

However, acupuncture either as an alternative treatment or as part of a comprehensive management program has been found effective in postoperative and chemotherapy nausea and vomiting, and in postoperative dental pain. It has proved helpful in treating addiction, headaches, low back pain, osteoarthritis, tennis elbow, fibromyalgia, myofascial pain, asthma and carpal tunnel syndrome. It has also been found effective in providing pain relief and also in improving the function for people with osteoarthritis of the knees. The acupuncture points are now defined and standardized by the World Health Organization.
