Hastings has long been a favorite place for painters and artist. Many painter and artist from the pre-Raphaelite era have praised the town for its light and clear air.
During the 19th century the town prospered a lot through tourism trade from places like London and Midlands. The town was expanded on the basis of Government policy to reduce and scatter population out of England. Planning policies in Rother restricted the growth of town. It is currently one of the most economically poor districts of south-east England.
At first it is hard to give reason why Hastings suffers such disadvantage as compared to other districts. Right now Hastings has been going through major revival. Recently Hastings railway station was re-built. University Center Hasting (UCH) has been built to provide higher education.
