In addition Omo is also the name of an important Ethiopian River. Its source is in the highlands of Shoa. It has many tributaries and is a perennial river. It is approximately 760 km in length. Its tributaries include the Gibe, Wabi, Mago and Gojeb rivers. It is home to plenty of exotic wildlife including crocodiles, hippopotamuses and Bitis arietans. However this river caused much destruction and loss of life in 2006 when it flooded owing to excessive rains in the area.
