Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Ayers Rock or Uluru is the world's largest monolith rock in Australia and an Aboriginal sacred site. Ayers Rock is approximately at the centre of Australia, and is about 1800km from Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Darwin, Sydney and Perth.

This famous landmark is visited by tourists who may wish to make the sturdy 1.6km ascent to the top or take a walk around the rock. The total diameter of the rock is 9.4 km and the height rises up to 348 meters. Its formation is like the tip of an iceberg in the middle of the desert, and is believed that almost six kilometers remain buried. The red color of Uluru is due to the presence of oxidized minerals of iron that are present in the rock.

The 1325 hectares Kata Tiuta National Park, which has been listed as a World Heritage site, is located in Uluru. One can witness a display of varied colors of sunset and sunrise when the sun rays fall on the rock surface.
