It varies somewhat from dog to dog, and definitely from breed to breed. Tiny to small dogs often have their first heat cycle at about 6 months of age, and sometimes even earlier. Giant breeds, on the other hand, often do not have their first heat cycle until their 12 to 18 months old. Generally though, one can figure sometime between 6 and nine months.
