How Long Does Parvo Virus Last?

Answer Question

6 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

80% of Parvo pups survive with treatment.  80% die without treatment.  They can be treated at home or hospitalized, depending on the severity of it.  Do whichever the vet recommends.

Puppies that are nursing have mom's immunities and those immunities can last several weeks after nursing.  As long as the immunities are in the pups system, a Parvo vac will be no good.

You can get a false positive test in a pup that was just vaccinated.

My pup was just diagnosed on Monday.  I took him in because he fell off the bed and was sleeping a lot.  The gave him fluids and he was fine that night an all day yesterday.  He was eating and playing and not vomiting at all.  I'm currently treating him at home with the meds the vet gave us.  He vomited twice today.  His poop is still solid and he hasn't had a fever yet.  If he worsens, he will be hospitalized.

I have done a lot of research the last couple of days.  The best answers will come from your vet.  I don't know how long my pup will be sick.  The ve doesn't know either.  We don't know if he'll get worse before he gets better or if he will even survive.  I do know that I have a very good vet and they haven't lost a Parvo pup yet.  He's a Chihuahua and only 8 weeks old.

Im sorry to say but unless your dog is hospitalized, he/she will not make it. The disease itself does not kill but he/she will dehydrate severely. There is no cure for it, unless he/she is hospitalized, even then they only have a 40% chance of living
