Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Michael means "who is like God?" It is a name that is derived from Hebrew: מִיכָאֵל / מיכאל. In Latin it is also called Michael, Michaèl or Míchaël. In Spanish or Portuguese it is Miguel. This is a name generally given to males. There is also a female version known as Michelle or Michaela.

This name is the most renowned name all over European countries and mostly in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and many Caribbean and African countries, as well as Israel. The name first appeared in the Bible, in numbers 13 verse 13, where Michael who is Sethur's son is sent into the land of Canaan.  Even in the chapter Daniel 12 verse 1, the Archangel Michael is mentioned. The Roman Catholic Church celebrates September 29 as the feast day of Michael, Gabriel and Raphael.
