Who Wrote The "Winnie-the-Pooh" Stories?

"Winnie-thePooh" (1926) and "The House at Pooh Corner" (1928) were written by AA Milne, who was already a well known playwright, but who is now known almost solely as the creator of Pooh Bear. Pooh and his friends are still loved by children 80 years after the first book appeared. The names of Piglet, Rabbit, Eeyore the gloomy donkey, pedantic Owl, bouncy Tigger, motherly Kanga and her baby Roo, are known through books, Disney and other adaptations, and a range of toys and other merchandise. Equally important in the stories is the only human character, Christopher Robin, named after Milne's own son (just as many of the characters were named after Christopher Milne's own toys.) Christopher Robin is a helpful figure in the background, playing with the animals, explaining things and sometimes rescuing them. The stories end when Christopher Robin goes to school and regretfully leaves his miniature kingdom behind.
