According to a comment, reported some time before he became famous, Shakespeare held the horses outside the theatre! In 1587, the year before the first of the great Armadas, a serious altercation blew up between two actors of a touring company. The outcome was, that one of them was killed! Unfortunately, the one who was killed, was William Knell, the juvenile lead of the company. Nowadays, he would play Romeo, or Antonio in the "Merchant of Venice", or Henry V, or any great, leading thespian role. This sent ructions throughout the company, as virtually everybody was affected in one way or another, and Shakespeare, a young boy barely 23, was pulled inside, out of the rain and hail, and given "a job" to do within the company. This is where, it is presumed, he got his "start".
