Where Is Memphis, Egypt?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Memphis basically was the ancient capital of the first name of Lower Egypt. Its historic Egyptian name was Ineb Hedj which means "The White Walls". The contemporary cities as well as towns of Mit Rahina, Dahshur, Saqqara, Abusir, Abu Ghurab and Zawyet El Aryan found south of Cairo, all come under the managerial borders of historical Memphis.

Memphis was also known as Ankh Tawy in Ancient Egypt, hence pressuring the calculated position of the city between Upper and Lower Egypt. The ruins of Memphis are exactly positioned nineteen kilometres south of Cairo, near the West bank of Nile.

The city was established in 3100 BC by Menes of Tanis, who combined the two kingdoms of Egypt, which had approximately 30,000 inhabitants.
