What Was The Response Of Sri Lanka On Britain's Suspension Of Debt Relief To The State?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The president of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapakse put forward his pledge of self-reliance for Sri Lanka after Britain's statement of suspension of debt relief to Sri Lanka until the state ameliorates its human rights record.  Although the Sri Lankan president did not declare the complete boycott of foreign aid, he did make a point of increasing the extent of self-reliance in the economic arena of Sri Lanka.

These opinions were given by him during a press conference held at his residence.  He further stated that the aid had to be genuine and in pure goodwill for Sri Lanka to accept it or in the alternative case, Sri Lanka was very much capable to depend on its own financial and other types of resources.

He backed his statement with the fact that Sri Lanka is using its own money for the purpose of resettlement work instead of waiting for an international non-governmental organization to grant them aid for the resettlement work.  Moreover the successful carriage of the resettlement project was another factor that advocated the theory of self-reliance that was given by the Sri Lankan president.
