My Boyfriend Has Anorexia And Wants To Get Better. How Can I Help Him? What Tips Can I Give Him?

I noticed my boyfriend has had a dramatic weight loss of 60-70 lbs over the past year, weird for someone who's never worked out. I also noticed he NEVER ate though I tried getting him to. Finally I confronted him about it and he admitted it's because people use to call him fat (jokingly) but it really got to his head so he just stopped eating. He said now that i know and care he'd love to get better. He just needed support. How do I help him? Any tips on how to handle this?

Well it is quite commendable when you found out that you just didn't drop him like that..shows a lot of character on your part and also on his that he was willing to let you help. Anyways, the best thing that you can do is just be there for him. Avoid telling other people about the situation as this may be seen helpful to you, but very degrading to him which he already has a slight problem in the first place to be in this situation. Encourage him to go out and eat with you! This great because you are doing this together and down the road he will think wonders of you for being that girl that cared so about him to help him out. This disease will kill!!! And should never be taken lightly...I don;t think you are just making sure you know. Encourage him to work better at thinking of himself in a better light. Try giving him complements on how he looks and how healthy he looks when he starts eating some more. This will help in the right direction. Encouraging him that you like him the way he looked before he lost so much weight may also be a way for him to be motivated to do the right thing. Well I sure do hope this helps you,

I used to suffer from anorexia in the past few years. The thing about it, is that you get it in your head that skinny is life - and even for boys. I stopped eating, and then when i was hungry i couldnt find anything worth eating so i didnt eat. When I finally got help, the hardest part was eating! I couldn't sit down and finish a happy meal without leavin half the chips and a few nuggets! It was really really hard, but I finally found the way and now I eat healthy. The thing is, that if he doesnt want to see a specialist about anorexia then learn together about nutrious food and healthy living. That helped me tremendoulsly - and now im super fit and healthy. If you learn portion control, eating the right foods and vegetables, your daily intake for water and the amount of exercise your supposed to do will help him in controlling his weight, just as he thinks he does by not eating. He must have you to support him though, he cant do it alone and its going to be tougher than you both might think but you can get through it. You always can. Good luck xxx

Congratulations to you that your boyfriend has agreed to do something for his anorexia! It's great that you are there to support him through this tough phase. However, it can be quite a task for you two to get him out of this, especially since he has been anorexic for a year or more. Anorexia is a condition, which is as much psychological as physical. Putting a full stop to it will not come easy. The best option for you is to approach a professional counselor and talk about your boyfriend's condition. Since he has already agreed to get over his anorexia, finding a good treatment option should be easy. Good luck!

Anorexia causes all kind of health issues.  The only thing I can suggest is that you encourage him in a loving and serious way to seek medical help.  He has lost a lot of weight and needs treatment before it gets any worse.  Hope is willing to get the help he needs.  Go on line and check out some treatment centers and/or doctors who specialize in the treatment of anorexia.

Its more of having a regular eating pattern... Just eat out with him. And monitor daily weight.. Its a good sign that he wants to gain.. Just tell him that you are there to support.. And chat down progress... Regular eating and weighing can really help..
