Since the year 1911 Accuity which is in essence a SourceMedia company has been deemed the official registrar dealing with routing numbers as per the American Bankers Association. It is this company that is ultimately responsible for allocating new ABA numbers.

A routing transit number (RTN), also an ABA number, would refer to a nine digit code, popularly utilized in the United States, essentially identifies precisely various financial institutions. This particular system is in honour of the American Bankers Association, since in the year 1910, they designed it.

The ABA routing number in effect consists of 9 digits. The initial four digits would be Federal Reserve Routing Symbol; the next four, ABA Institution Identifier and finally the last digit is the Check Digit. Remember that 00 is for use by the United States Government, while 01 through 12 would be considered the "normal" routing numbers.
