Is It True That A Hot Water Heater Can Leak On And Off Before Having To Be Replaced?

Answer Question

If it's a pinhole, it can seal itself with the mineral deposits inside the heater. But because the temperature fluctuates when water is drawn out and replenished, the hole may open again. Make sure it's an actual leak and not water coming out of the expansion valve (this relieves pressure when needed inside the heater and may cause some water to drip out the pipe). If it's a leak, replace it before you have major water damage, these heaters carry a large quantity of water.
