How Do I Write A Thesis Statement?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A thesis statement's content will vary depending on the subject and the level of degree. In general terms though, a thesis statement should provide a clear, straightforward description of the aim of your essay or dissertation. It should outline the key points and the argumentative structure of your work, in some cases breaking these up into different chapter headings. You may also wish to summarize your thesis argument in one or two lines, stripping it down to its barest level. Depending on the subject, a thesis statement is usually anywhere between 250 and 5000 words, or even longer if it is being written for PhD level work. If you are submitting a thesis statement for a scientific or engineering degree, you may also be required to provide some qualitative data as an indicator of your research so far. A thesis statement should also contain a working bibliography of about five items, as well as a rough title.
