Not Waterloo. LOL!!! (that was Napoleon)
WATERGATE. (US President Richard Nixon)
Watergate was the nickname given to a series of political scandals that originated (during the Richard Nixon administration)with the illegal breaking and entering into offices of the Democratic National Convention HQ in Washington DC during June 1972. The entire affair and crimes termed "Watergate" included campaign fraud, political espionage, sabotage, illegal break-ins, questionable tax audits, illegal wiretapping, and a secret slush fund to pay those who conducted these operations. This secret fund
was also used to buy silence of the seven men who were
indicted for the DNC break-in

Actually the Watergate was the name of the hotel where the Convention and the Democratic HQ were located.

Actually so, of course. The scandal was indeed named after the hotel complex where the break-in occurred. When people think of Watergate, they decidedly do not associate it with the hotel complex, however, but rather the political scandal/ actions.. Additionally, the question regards addressing the scandal, rather than the geographics.
