Do Various Countries Have The Same Type Of Fairytales?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Yes, many different cultures and countries have variations of the same fairytale.  For example, in the UK and US, we are familiar with the tale of Cinderella.  In German fairytales, a girl called Ashputtel can't go to a ball because her wicked stepmother makes her pick out the lentils from the ashes.
In Philopino tales, a young girl called Maria can't go to a ball because she is made to wash clothes in a river.  But in all three of these tales, the girl gets to go to the ball, helped by a young and very handsome prince.
This story and many other fairytales with a similar theme can be found all over the world, proving perhaps that we all have more in common than we sometimes care to admit.  But the universal themes of wicked stepmothers and right conquering wrong doing, seem to be prevalent throughout the world.
