Did Die Hard Do Well At The Box Office?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Saying that Die Hard did well at the Box office is an understatement. It was both a commercial and critical success earning over $80 million at the US box office alone. The film led to two sequels, a video game and made several of its actors including Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman into recognized names in Hollywood.

The film depicted a bunch of mostly German speaking terrorist led by Alan Rickman taking over the 'Nakatomi Plaza' building in Los Angeles. Their motive remains financial gain as they plot to break in to the safe belonging to a wealthy Japanese Corporation located in the building. The day is saved when detective John McClain of the New York Police Department, played by Bruce Willis, gets trapped in the building while attending a party where he has been invited by his wife's boss. He starts bumping off bad guys and ends up saving the day.

Though the film is considered an escape from reality, it hit it off with audiences. The slick well dressed criminals were supposedly an analogy for big corporations who have little regard for anything but profit.
