How Can A 17 Years Old Buy Alcohol In UK?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

If 16 and 17 years-old, you can actually drink beer, even wine or cider if along with a meal, provided someone who is truly over 18 buys it for you. However, it's mandatory that it should be in a locale expressly set aside for meals; not in any bar area. It is clearly against the law if someone under 18 purchases alcohol in a pub, in any off-licence, some supermarket, or for that matter, other outlet. It is also illegal to purchase alcohol for children under 18 to drink the same in a pub or say in a public place.

There are certain towns as well as cities possessing local by-laws banning any drinking of alcohol in public. On the other hand, in Scotland, both 16 and 17 year olds may actually acquire beer, wine or cider provided that it's served accompanying a meal and also, consumed in any designated area used exclusively for eating meals.
