    According to the 2001 Census, the population of Montrose in Angus, Scotland is 10,845.

    The population of Montrose has seen a number of spikes and troughs through the ages. In 1901, the population was 14,027. There was a steady decline from then until 1931.

    By 1951, population numbers grew to 12,494 and then to 12,499 in 1961. By the time of the 1971 Census, the population of Montrose had dipped below that of the 1930s. A rally in numbers was experienced in 1981, but since then the population has dipped to a new all time low.

    Recent population estimates (2004) puts the population tally at 11,840.
