A debit card (also known as a bank card) is a plastic card which provides an alternative payment method to cash when making purchases. Functionally, It can be called an electronic check, as the funds are withdrawn directly from either the bank account(often referred to as a check card), or from the remaining balance on the card.

A debit card verses a credit card is: When using a debit card you are "debiting" your own money, not a line of credit..like a checking or a savings account..

Its the equivilant of writing a check with the convienance of a credit card....
