 Bristol is a city located in the south-west of England. It is located just 115 miles west of London. It has a population of around 410,000 with a metropolitan area of 550, 000. It is ranked as the sixth most populous county and the ninth most populous in the United Kingdom. The city of Bristol is one of England's main cities. The city received the royal charter in the year 1155 and it received the status of a county in the year 1373. For more than half a Millennium the city of Bristol was the second largest city in England.

The city commands the status of 'Ceremonial County' 'City' and 'Unitary district'.
Bristol is famous for its different types of musical styles and the film industry. It was also one of the finalists for the 2008 European Capital of Culture ultimately loosing out to Liverpool.
