Which Is Better For You Regular Milk Or Soy Milk?
I recently found out from my doctor that I am lactose intolerant. So I have been drinking soy milk and I was curious which is actually better nutritionally? Regular 2% White Milk or Soy milk? And Why?

Hi Makito,
I too am lactose intolerant and prefer the soy milk over the Lactaid any day! The Lactate, to me, seems gritty, leaving a white "ring" at the bottom of your glass or cup. I prefer to drink Silk soy milk and find it to be very good (no more cramping or bloating ... Yea!!!).
Silk has regular and light versions of their "regular" soy milk as well as vanilla and chocolate, which are both very good too.
In general I find that soy milk is more substantial than regular milk in that it seems to quell your appetite better than a glass of regular milk would. (I have had a glass of soy milk at 2:30 in the afternoon and not been hungry until dinner time, about 6:30.)
Soy milk is very good for you, having only 100 calories per serving (8 ounces), no cholesterol, 8 grams of carbohydrates, 4 grams of fat, and 120 mg. Of sodium.
Milk (2%) has 130 calories per serving (8 ounces), 20 mg. Of cholesterol, 12 grams of carbohydrates, 5 grams of fat, and 130 mg. Of sodium.
Comparing the two, they seem quite similar, and while 30 calories difference might not seem like a lot, if you drink a lot of milk the calories (and the cholesterol) will add up quickly.
Keep in mind that soy is good for women in Peri- or full menopause. The amounts of cholesterol in milk may become an issue if you drink a lot of milk and have an elevated cholesterol level.
I'm just glad that there is milk we can drink after avoiding it all these years!
Thanks for letting me share and have a WONDERFUL day!!

Soy consumption is not as safe as the industry would like us to believe. It mimics estrogen and can be an issue for women with a history of cancer- either directly or familial. Also, over consumption for children can cause problems. It can bring on early menstrual cycles in girls and for boys it can cause delays in the

For people who are lactose intolerant, soy milk is recommended. It does not contain the nutrients that you are unable to digest. That is galactose. Lactose intolerance means that your body has a low or no tolerance for lactose, because the enzyme which breaks down this sugar is inactive or not being produced in optimum quality. So you should avoid all the products which contain lactose, i.e. Dairy products. You can even go for almond milk or a milk known as "lactaid". Lactase tastes much better than the soy milk, and it is often recommended to lactose intolerant people.
