Christine L. Case's first job in the field of science was that of a laboratory technician who specialised in looking for antimicrobial activity in the chemicals that are found in plants. She worked at the USDA-Western Regional Research Laboratory at that time.
It was during this time that Ms. Case got an opportunity to work with two men who are considered to be luminaries in the field of life sciences. One of them was her role model Dr. Doug King and the other scientist was Dr. Leo Kline.
In fact, Ms. Case worked with Dr. Kline during the latter's discovery of sourdough bread, which is known scientifically as Lactobacillus sanfranciscensis. It was a memorable experience for her, but she quit her job to pursue a career in teaching. She has taught at Skyline ever since.
