I Have Red Hair And Brown Eyes, My Husband Has Brown Hair And Eyes. What Will Are Baby Have?

Red haired people are pure breeding for red hair, that is they only carry genes for the recessive red colour.  So u can only pass on genes for red hair .  Your husband  has brown hair. Brown is dominant to red or fair hair . If your husband was pure breeding for his brown hair he would be BB but if he is not pure breeding  for brown hair he has  1 Dominant B ( we know this as he is brown ) plus   also a  recessive red gene or a recessive  blue gene. For your baby then to be a redhead your husband has to pass on a "red" gene, so that the baby has a double dose of the red allele. If your husband passes on his brown dominant gene ,the ,genotype for baby is then dominant  B and your recessive r  =B r the baby will be a heterozygote for brown hair colour, meaning not pure breeding for brown ./////////There is a big chance that your baby will be brown eyed but again if u are both carrying a gene for recessive blue (say ) and the baby inherits this in a double dose the baby will be pure breeding for blue eyes.  //////       To work out the chances of hair/eye colour in offspring u need to know the parents genotypes  and then refer to mendelian genetics.

I also have red hair and brown eyes, my husband was a blonde with brown eyes however his hair has since darkened to brown these passed few years. My Daughter was born with reddish blonde hair and blue eyes. My daughter is now 5 years old and her blue eyes have changed to green/hazel and her hair is more of a dark blonde than red. I was the only red head in my family until my dark brown haired sister and her dark brown husband gave birth to two read heads. Amazing!
