What Exactly Does GM-certified Mean?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The abbreviation GM stands for the initials of the American automobile giant General Motors. When a car has been certified by General Motors (which is abbreviated as GM), it means the car is no older than five years and has clocked a mileage of less than 60, 000 miles.

These vehicles are available only at select General Motors dealers. These vehicles have received the General Motors certification only after complying with General Motors' standards of quality which are tough. They have to comply with these stringent standards of quality when they are in the process of being built.

The General Motors family of vehicles include Buicks, Cadillacs, Chevrolets, GMC's, Hummers, Oldsmobiles, Pontiacs, Saabs and Saturns. The salient features of the General Motors Certification are 100-plus point inspection, comprehensive limited warranty, three-day or 150-miles (whichever is earlier) satisfaction guarantee, 24-hour roadside assistance and pricing which is based on the market trends.
