How Should Our Landlord Notify Us Of Changes To Our Agreement?

10 of us share a flat and rent individual rooms from our landlord with shared communal spaces that we are all responsible for. If the landlord wants to change something (for example he just implemented a policy of charging a retainer on the summer holidays if the property is empty) should he inform us all individually or can he rely on telling one person and assuming the rest will be told? We also pay our rent by the term (11 weeks), how far in advance does he have to notify us of changes? Thanks

Do each of you have a separate contract with the owner? Do some of you sub-let? It all depends. It gets very technical and legalistic depending. However, I don't believe he can make changes mid-term. You already have a signed contract. Of course the start of a new term and a new contract; beware!

We have separate contracts and he notified us at the end of the term (actually 3 days after term had finished) that he wanted a retainer, he excuse was that he told the upstairs people at the start of that term and they had already paid.

The landlord should write an addendum to each agreement & provide at least 2 weeks notice prior to any changes.♥
