South East Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO) was formed in 1955 but couldn't last very long and was disbanded in 1977. Initially many nations pledged its allegiance to the organization which included Australia, France, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, the United States, Thailand and United Kingdom, but none of the members continued with their pledge and the treaty had to be abandoned in 1977.
Not all the nations were in the favour of a regional grouping and they joined a new group called NAM, i.e. non aligned movement or allegiance to nobody. The leaders of these nations thought that forming a particular group can brought hegemony in few hands and they were not in that favour.
The treaty was formed to stop the expansion of communism but was in trouble all through the years of its existence.
