A cheque guarantee card is letter of credit given by a bank to a customer who is having a good credit score. This card gives the customer to purchase items via cheque and the shop keeper write down the card number on the cheque's back side. Once the cheque is signed and the shopkeeper matches the sign which are present on the card after that the payment cannot be halt by the bank.

To add to it, the bank normally stipulates the limit to which they are prepared to guarantee any one cheque, certainly in England.  In England this limit would normally be 100 pounds, sometimes only 50 pounds.  This does not mean that you cannot write a cheque for more, or that a retailer will not accept a cheque for more, but that if there is not enough money in your account the bank do not guarantee to pay out any more than this limit they have set.  Nor do they accept account holders getting around this limit by writing multiple cheques for the same transaction.

Nowadays a cheque guarantee is normally included on a debit card, which can take the money straight out of your account without writing a cheque.  Many organizations which accept cheques merely swipe the details through the machine, thus effectively turning the cheque into a debit card payment.  So do not rely on being able to delay a purchase going through your account for a few days by writing a cheque instead of using a card.
