Bern653,
Removal of part of the intestine—often after a foreign body
ingestion—is fairly common in dogs especially young mischievous puppies. Dogs can lose between 70-80% of the small
intestine without having long term side effects. It is not common to remove close to this much
of the intestine; the small intestine is very long and often only a small
section needs to be removed. The
veterinarian who performed surgery would have told you if they were concerned
about the amount of intestine removed and discussed management of short bowel
syndrome (when greater than 80% of the small intestine is removed).

As long as you stick to what the vet said about after care, and feeding her the right foods, plenty of exercise, there shouldn't be any cause for concern. Many dogs have had long healthy lives after this. Hope this helps, good luck.
