Statistics is a branch of math. If you wish to study computer science you have to study mathematics, particularly mathematical logic which not comes under statistics alone.
In programming you don't only make programs but you sort out the ways to resolve many everyday problems like mean, median, average and so on. Statistics gives one of the best methods to do this.
