Why Is My Car Cutting Off When I Come To A Stop Or When At Idle?

I can start my car with no problem, but when I'm driving and I come to a light or stop sign my car wants to cut off like it's not getting enough fuel. Once it cuts off it starts right back up, but this happens also when I exit the freeway ramp and go to accelerate. I drive a 1999 Chevy Malibu

I am no car expert but it kinda sounds like when I drove standard at first and I didn't use the clutch and shift right. Is your car a standard or automatic?

Get it tuned up.  Have the oil changed.  Put it thru a car wash that cleans it inside and out.  Prepared for a miracle.

Most likely it is a problem with ignition, spark plugs, wires etc.  Second, it could be a fuel filter and third, it might be a sensor.

This is probably the best answer I have gotten. Thank you. I think I just had the fuel filter changed but I can't remember when i had a tune up, just a couple of weeks ago, but not sure I'll have to look at my paperwork, but by chance could this also have something to do with the fuel pump as well?

You told this to the tune up shop?  If so take it back and tell them to fix it.  The shop should try to fix it, maybe for nothing.

Didn't mention it?  You gotta pay again got sure.

        Likely Causes

Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve -

An IAC valve that is sticking in its bore, slow to react or is not being controlled properly by the powertrain control module (PCM) will cause the engine to stall when the throttle is released.

        Throttle Body -

A throttle body that has carbon built up around the throttle plate can cause the engine to stall when the throttle is released.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve -

An EGR valve that is commanded on at idle, has carbon holding the valve open or stuck in the open position can cause the engine to stall when the throttle is released.

        Overlooked Causes

        Fuel Pressure Regulator -

Fuel leaking from the fuel pressure regulator into the engine will cause the engine to stall when the throttle is released.

24X Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor -

An erratic signal from the 24X CKP sensor may the engine to stall when the throttle is released.

        Fuel Injectors  -

Fuel Injectors that are open, shorted or restricted can cause the engine to stall when the throttle is released.

        Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor -

A CKP sensor that produces an erratic signal can cause the engine to stall when the throttle is released.
